‘A&G’ Amal Guessous Brand Backstory “Chrome Hearts” –

Amal Guessous collaborated closely with Richard Stark during the formative years leading to the creation of Chrome Hearts. As one of the original designers working alongside Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark prior to the house’s founding in 1988, Guessous helped shape the brand’s iconic rock-and-roll aesthetic. During this mid-to-late 1980s period, he operated under his original identity, A&G Rock, focusing on rock-inspired .925 sterling silver jewelry and custom .925 sterling hardware–embellished garments within the pre–Chrome Hearts Los Angeles scene. He later expanded this vision under A&G Cashmere, launched in 1989, introducing full “rock couture” collections that carried the same rebellious luxury ethos. A&G remains the only brand to successfully defeat Chrome Hearts in court, prevailing in two infringement cases in the 1990s and again in 2007.

This piece originates from that pivotal pre-Chrome Hearts era, when Guessous and Stark were producing exclusive, one-off works for high-profile clients.
