A one-of-a-kind, mid-1980s exclusive collaboration between Amal Guessous of (A&G Rock) Later – “A&G Cashmere” and Richard Stark, created during the pre–Chrome Hearts era. Crafted in the USA, this custom designer piece was made by Amal Guessous, who worked alongside Richard Stark during the formative years that would later define Chrome Hearts.
‘A&G’ Amal Guessous Brand Backstory “Chrome Hearts” –
Active since the late 1970s, Amal Guessous is a Moroccan-born designer who later worked between Paris and Los Angeles, renowned for luxury leather, shearling, and cashmere. During the mid-to-late 1980s, Guessous collaborated closely with Richard Stark during the formative period leading up to the creation of Chrome Hearts, working alongside Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark prior to the brand’s founding in 1988 and contributing to the development of its early rock-and-roll aesthetic.
During this pre–Chrome Hearts era, Guessous operated under his original identity, A&G Rock, focusing on rock-inspired .925 sterling silver jewelry and custom garments embellished with .925 sterling silver hardware within the Los Angeles scene. He later expanded this vision under A&G Cashmere, launched in 1989, introducing full “rock couture” collections that carried the same rebellious luxury ethos. Notably, A&G remains the only brand to have successfully prevailed against Chrome Hearts in court, winning infringement cases in the 1990s and again in 2007.
This piece originates from that pivotal pre-Chrome Hearts era, when Guessous and Stark were producing exclusive, one-off works for high-profile clients. Executed as a hand-crafted leather artwork with .925 sterling silver hardware, it reflects Guessous’ peak creative output and a rare material experiment.
Only a very small number of leather garments incorporating sterling silver elements were ever produced during this period, making surviving examples exceptionally rare. Created just before Stark founded Chrome Hearts in 1988, this piece represents a defining intersection of two influential creative forces—before one went on to become a global luxury icon.
